Sulcatas are the third largest tortoise species still around. They get to 18" long and 100 lbs with incredible strength and huge appetites. Big sulcatas can be 30" long and weight 150lbs!

I have friends who received one as a gift about 3 or 4 years ago. Sadly they live in a 2-bedroom apartment. Jesse was about 4 inches from side to side when they got him, if I recall correctly. You could easily hold him in the palm of one hand. Now I would be hard pressed to pick him up at all. He's huge - probably 15" across and still growing. I don't know what their upper limit is, but he's not even slowing down.
