What Kind Of Snake Is This?

Question

I found this snake in the mountains in California in a gentle part of a river in the forest. Its pretty high altitude,
Anyone know what kind it is???

That is definitely a Sierra Garter Snake ( Thamnophis couchii)

They are common at lakes and rivers in the sierras, and often found at the waters edge, or in the water. I have seen dozens personally.



They are harmless, and eat fish and amphibians.

It is a type of garter snake. It doesn't even look close to a kingsnake.

garter snake. they live in or around water eating fish and frogs. kingsnakes aren't found in water

Its quite possibly a Aberrant California Kingsnake or maybe even a Black-headed Snake, Which are often found in California. Its defiantly not a Rattlesnake, Corn Snake or Ball Python.
