Millions of years of predatory evolution did NOT make an animal that is "tamable"... yes, a kept gator will be used to people, and perhaps even handlable and mellow, BUT 80 teeth, 2000 psi of bite pressure and no concept of not biting the hand that feeds you, doesn't add up to a "tame" animal.

What I think's funny is that they say it "seemed tame" and that people have been feeding it...

95% of our attacks here in Florida on people by gators are linked to feeding... a fed gator is a "tame" gator because it will approach you and act nice... unless you don't have food... think of the squirrels in parks that get fed and run up someone's leg who doesn't have anything to feed them... gators bite a LOT harder than a squirrel...

(I also love how people with absolutely NO alligator experience always go in first and make it nearly impossible for the people who know what they're doing to get the gator... watch how long this takes... if they even catch it... it might just get killed by the cold this winter.)

Most animals can be "tamed" to some degree. Saying this if an alligator or crock were to be handled a lot growing up they could exhibit "tame" behaviors, but (and this is a big one) they are still a very instinctive creature with hundreds of millions of years backing that instinct. Alligators are a large predatory carnivore, making them very difficult to tame to the point of being able to handle them regularly with results which are never in question.

Granted some trainers have alligators they let people approach and interact with, it is always under the most strict and controlled circumstances when this occurs. Also the alligator in question could have been used to human infringement, making him less aggressive towards people, but very dangerous none the less. While alligators are cute fuzzy little guys I tend to step lightly around anything with a few hundred million years of evolution telling him I might be a good mid day meal.

actually alligators are not evil creatures at all even large alligators in the wild would swim away from you they get a bad name from there cousin the crocodile which have a tendency to much more aggressive especially the salty which they probably just see us a a nuisance or a easy meal however if an alligator is kept in captivity it will calm down not tame down a animal is never tame not even a pet dog all animals are wild and should be treated as such but lots of people keep alligators successfully and never substance a bite hope this helped

i'm able to’t remark on crocodiles, yet my kin stored an alligator for 25 years as a house puppy. Its call became into Albert and it became into knowledgeable to return to my mom and dad’ whistle. It became into better than a metre long, approximately 40 two-inches. It’s weight loss application became into especially floor horse meat– hamburger is composed of too lots fat. It enjoyed june bugs and can consume them like popcorn. We maintained a great pan, style of its very own pool, in a secluded element of the kin residing room the place it might decide for nutrition or to offload. It enjoyed to solar in a great photograph window at the back of my mom’s chair. whilst my father sat interior the room to verify or study, Albert might slowly climb and roll over in his lap to have his abdomen scratched. So my answer is that alongside with iguanas and various different reptiles, that's possible to tame an alligator. It’s quite often a count of guy or woman temperment.

I have known several people with large, "tame" alligators. They could carry them around, let people pet them, etc. Kind of like a corn snake, I guess, although nobody pays much attention when a "tame" corn snake gets a little nippy. American alligators are the most easily tamed of the crocodilians.

However, like any wild animal, they are unpredictable and could not be 100% trusted.

But then again, many people have had their face ripped apart by "tame" dogs, so I guess we can't make assumptions either way.

I saw a documentary on TV a couple months ago. A man lived with an alligator in his house. It seemed friendly. But I'm not going to be visiting him anytime soon. His wife, children, and grand-children didn't seem to mind it being there either.

I definitely would have to say, no. I don't really see reptiles that way! As much as I enjoyed Steve Irwin's shows, he always respected them, whether he had them for years or new arrivals.

Take Care, ;-)

yes its possible to train anything. depends on the animals ability to tame and the trainers ability to train. You see those tamed bears and people with tame pet tigers that are as tame as any dog. Its unlikely but possible

Yes, it's quite possible. They are often quite tame after being raised in captivity and handled a lot.

No. Maybe it would better be described as "didn't seem hungry". You cannot tame a wild animal, let alone a reptile of that sort.

No, it is lacking brain capacity to behave in a "tame" manner. It may have been habituated to being near people, but it could never be considered to be a safe "pet".
