Question:
Looking and possibly buying a snake?

Im wondering what kind of snake would be best for me.

Im looking at a Redtail Boa, Ball Python, Bull Snake, Emerald Tree Boa, and a Yellow Anaconda.

Im looking for a snake that is somewhat of a challenge. But also one that will bite occasionally. They are all snakes that can grow to be 5+ footers easily. All of which are beautiful and can be used to human contact once they have been handled enough.

I also have this thread open to anyone who has one of these animals and are willing to part with. No guarrantees that it will happen just yet but open minds are welcome.

Which 2 would you prefer of the lot?

Thanks in advance!

If this is your first pet snake, I'd stick with the Bull Snake. They will bite in an instant but can also be tamed to an extent, and are fairly easy to care for. Ball Pythons are less likely to bite but that isn't saying that they won't. It is a bit trickier keeping any Python than it would be a Colubird, taking in humidity and specific temperature needs. Red Tails are gorgeous, good sized snakes. As they are pythons, you have the temperature to keep in mind and you need to make sure they have a cage large enough to explore and climb around in. Emerald Tree Boas aren't as easy to tame. Daily or even every other day handling could cause too much stress and end ultimately in death. I don't know much about Yellow Anacondas, but I'd guess that they get some good length on them so you should have a large future home ready if you decide to go with that. Good luck with your search and make sure that you do tons of research!

Okay, well redtailes are BEAUTIFUL snakes but i havent heard of them being really nippy at all.. apparently boas can be very soft haha. But yes, at 12ft max they are stunning snakes so long are you willing to take it on, which im so pleased to see that you are.

Ball pythons wont actually grow that big and even though they come in loads of different morphs they are also very soppy snakes.

I don't know anything about bull snakes sorry ):

Emerald tree boas are very pretty too, but one thing i get told very often is that these snakes are more for display than handling. They WILL bite and could keep the attitude for a very long time. The don't move a lot and aren't really great pets to hold.

Also i don't know a lot about yellow anacondas but they are very pretty too.

Something you didn't mention is a carpet python. I have a jungle carpet python and trust me, shes nippy all right!!! they grow up to be striking yellow with bold black stripes and although they calm down after a year, you still have to put the effort in while they nip your fingers off haha.

Its kinda cute though. Jungles are notorious for being nippy, read any care sheet.

the females can grow to be 8ft max so a lovely size and not too thick as they are slender bodied.

But sorry for going off topic a bit. If it were me id go for the redtail boa... and i couldn't chose between the rest. Im a fan of the carpet pythons really haha.

p.s - I know someone selling jungles still (sorry UK only), same breeder i got mine off. But again, you might not be interested in these snakes.

Hope i helped! good luck with these snakes <3

My first question is if you have ever owned a snake before. If not I would only recommend the Royal(AKA Ball). My second question would be why you want a snake that will bite on occasionally if you want it to be used to being handled. If you've never owned a snake before I would recommend a Royal(AKA Ball) Python. They get to be 3 to 4 feet(male) 4 to 5 feet(female). If you get really lucky you MIGHT get a female that will get to 6 feet long. They are just as beautiful as the larger snakes but are also great for a beginner. Personally I wouldn't want to own a snake that might bite on occasion but I have friends who come over with their small children who love to pet my snakes so for me it's a safety issue. Neither one of my Royal Pythons bite. They have been handled daily since they were less then a foot long. Can they bite? Sure any animal with teeth can bite. They don't though only because of the fact that they get handled daily. I also know their personalities enough to know when they don't want to be held and I don't take them out on days like that. I can also tell when they are out that they have had enough of being held by me while strangers pet them and sometimes hold them. If they are showing me their signs that they've had enough I bring them home immediately and they go back in their cage. I will also normally bring their backpack with me so if they have had enough and want to hide until we get home they can. This keep everyone around me and most importantly my snakes safe.

If I was you, i'd pick a Burmese python or a Blood python.

Both i've owned, been bitten by both, both are better once handled a lot.

If you want something SUPER difficult, i'd recommend a emerald tree boa.

they're vicious, and really hard to tame..

Good luck!

A good Christmas gift for kids or friends kids would be a Corn Snake. It is a tame snake that bites, but has no venom. Think of it this way: Monarch = Poisonous. Viceroy = Non poisonous. Corn snakes are "copies" of another snake who name escapes me. But yeah.

My recommendation would be Yellow 'Conda.

i might get a backyard snake or a python, backyard snakes are the simplest and are smaller which advise much less money to look after and smaller cage yet a python have extra of a character, they get extra beneficial yet they seem to be a super snake to study approximately and that they are generally friendly! basically my 2 cents.
