i have a 40 gallon wide turtle tank and 2 red ear sliders about 5'' each.......

latey i've been visitng the local pet store to buy feeder fish and looking at the fish they have on sale as well.....i notice this huge beautiful fish for 39.99 called the "red devil".....and i also realized they sell a baby red devil for 12.99......

my question is......if i buy the baby or teh adult one.....would they get alone with the 2 turtles i have? or will it be a complete disaster?

i know turtles eat all the fish smaller than their sizes like guppies and rosy reds.......but i've seen videos of turtles with chichlids their size or bigger....... http://youtube.com/watch?v=7vMkGfzsYOU this one is a perfect example of fish + turtles...

thank you for your response!

You can try it but I wouldn't garanty your red devils survival, if you watch the video you posted closly you will notice on several occasions the turtles stopped and began chasing the fish, the didn't chase them for long, but they were still somewhat interested. In my experience RES will eat any type of fish, even if you get a big on the turtles will often work together to take him down. Hopefully the bright colors will make the turtles catiouse, but I have seen mine take down some pretty big goldfish, so don't be suprised if you see chunks missing out of your devils tail and fins, the trick to keeping fish with your turtles is to keep the turtles really well fed so they don't want the fish, but it can be really hard to satisfy a turtles diet because in the wild they are oppertunistic feeders, this means they will eat whenever there is food available, and store the extra food as fat for when they can't find any.

Good luck with your tank, I hope you find something that works.

Mixing turtles with fish is never a good idea. Even if the fish are larger the turtle can and will take fin bites at it. Plus red devils are named that for a reason. They can be very aggressive (like oscars) and may go after the turtle. They can not do much damage as a baby but it will stress both the turtle and fish out. If you want both I would put the fish in a separate tank.

red devils belong to the cichlid family and are fast swimmers. I think they will get along very well. I too have a community tank including turtles and cichlids (parrots) and so far there have been no casualties.

Here is a pic of my tank:

no. by what you've wrote it won't fit. turtles need minimum of ten gallons of water per inch. you said two 5" in a 40 gal. that's already too small. best not to add anything especially something that takes up alot of space themselves.
