Well I am thinking about getting a beginner snake and I was wondering whether I should get a ball python or a corn since they are both around the same price. I've reaserched them a lot but what I am really looking for is if I can handle either snake a lot. Like I would want to take it places with me [very often] I guess for show and I just love snakes in general. Would it be able to ride easily, like stay on my arm in a car? Or in public would it coil on me or try to get away. I don't really want a snake that won't stay on me or let me pet it a lot.

first off i must say thought that the ball python sounds more for you. the tend to sit still more, corn snakes are always on the move exploring. ball pythons just chill where they are at more often.

I myself like corn snakes more because i think they like to be handled more that ball pythons, BP can also be problem feeders...

NOTE:

No snake will "Enjoy" going around town with you, you should get a puppy or rat if you want to do that. I know that it will be "cool" to chill on the park bench with your snake but think about the snake too please, he will NOT enjoy it, at all.

I think the corn snake may handle it better than the BP with tend to be more stressed easily, but corns like to explore alot too. you would need to put it in a carry cage while you drive cause he wont just sit there. but the BP should also be in one while driving...

*crash* oficer im sorry my snake slipped to the ground and slithered over the gas pendal...

Good luck i love snakes too! -please remember how your snake feelks about your "outings" too though.. if you must start small and short trips..

Ball Pythons are usually very even tempered. They love coiling up around your arm and they will usually just stay that for long periods of time. If you take your snake to a lot of places you run the risk of making it nervous or grouchy which could lead to a bite or it moving around the whole time. However, this normally doesn't happen so it should be fine. As for the taking care of them, they are pretty low maintenance as long as you know you have to feed it baby mice, haha. Here's some reviews on Ball Pythons.

Go with the ball python. They are fairly placid, especially if you handle them a lot.

Corn snakes are pretty and can usually be trained to be held, but they are much more active and, well, wiggly :D

Boas (especially red tailed) are another really good choice for a starter snake. Again, very friendly and placid. But surprisingly smart and interactive.

Good luck and enjoy :D

Update : Care wise, snakes are really pretty easy. They don't eat often (and therefore don't poop often). The hardest thing is making sure you've got a source for live food. And their tanks can get smelly if you don't clean them well.

Ball Pythons are great. I've had two and I've only been bitten once, but that was my fault. I used to take my snake places and he would stay right on my arm or around my neck. You don't want to take them out too much, especially where there will be a lot of people who are afraid of snakes. People who are afraid can stress the snake out and scare it and it might bite you or that person.

If you dont want one that roams, deffinently get a ball python!

they are both great snakes, but the bps are generally more calm, while the corns like to explore. the bps will just wrap around your arm and chill. watch any video of a bp and then watch one of a corn and you will deff. see the difference.
possibly crazy?

i would recommend a ball python. corn snakes omit this really smelly pee that smells like skunk when they get scared. ball pythons are super chill. they do however require more time, space, attention, and money. look at what your willing to put into it. ask local pet stores about what you'll need for each and look at what you can realistically do. let me tell you it cost me $300 to get my ball python set up.

i was originally thinking about getting a corn snake too but they just aren't social. they just like to be left alone. they're more for looking at than anything

Ball Pythons are nocturnal and are extremely shy typically, they do not do well with frequent handling. The Corn on the other hand is diurnal and takes to handling very well. They are also easier to take care of.

Ball pythons are the easiest reptile, if not than snake out there. The will never bite unless your aggravating them or you have neglected them and their hungry. Corn snakes can be nasty ******* sometimes. I have never been bitten by either, but i have been threatened by a corn snake much more often.
