I have a 4 foot male columbian red tail boa (BCI) and when I was holding him I just thought up this question. I don't think he's fat... but how do you tell if a snake is fat?

There is such thing as an obese snake. These are the signs:

♥Lethargic, not willing to exersize

♥Fat rolls on body

♥Skin protruding in between scales

♥Over-eating

Obesity is easily cured by less feeding and more excersizing. Obesity is affecting snakes rapidly due to overfeeding/being fed to often and non-regular excersize.

Snakes can get power fed and made larger than they should be they can be fed impropperly and or lack proper lights to digest the foods correct.

So yes they can be an unhealthy weight.

However this being said,

If your snake is maintaining energy, moving around and is able to slither and crawl then Id be comfortable stating he is ok. It is when they bocome lazy, unable or unwilling to move etc that we worry
