Is it legal to have a frilled lizard for a pet? I've always wanted one. Can anyone give me some info on them? What do they eat, how big a tank do I need, how big do they get, etc. People with experience with these reptiles please answer this. Thanks!
PS-If you are just goin to tell me no to get one or if u are going to judge or call me names, save your time and mine.

Yes, they are legal. They sell them at my local reptile store. You'll have to find a pet store that imports them and/or buys them from local breeders. The pet store can help you out with a tank, light/heat source, and all the accessories to make them feel secure. You'll also need to buy worms & crickets to feed them. So if your local pet store doesn't sell crickets you'll have to buy them over the internet and keep crickets as pets as well.

I have bearded dragon & leopard geckos. The frilled lizard & bearded dragon eat the same crickets, worms, and some veggies (mine loves zuccinni). Go to Google or Yahoo and type in Frilled Lizard Pet and you'll find hundreds of pages on how to take care of them.

Good Luck! Reptiles are fun!

It's legal where I live, it might be different depending on your location.

But we have one at the pet shop I work at and it's an alright pet. If you are really into them, I suggest getting it young. Since they may be hard to find, they can be found anywhere between $89-250.

As far as a cage goes, you would want a 30 gallon high at least. maybe move it to something bigger after that, but you would also need a heat lamp.

They can eat crickets, meal worms, and pinky mice.

Ask around to find when the next reptile show is. At reptile shows, you can get supplys and animals MUCH cheaper than at any pet store.

Frilled lizards only extend their frills when they get upset. (I have seen it move when they eat and do other activities though)

They are relatively easy to take care of. If you can't find one of those, I suggest getting a Bearded Dragon.

I am assuming you live in the US, if so then your answer is it is legal. I live in California and I own one. I have a male sub-adult, he is about 36 inches from head to tail at the moment. The males get much larger, but can be aggressive, like mine who is pretty much a big jerk. He hisses when you approach him, this started about 6 months ago and hasn't ceased since. The males can get to be about 4 feet and eat mostly live prey, like rhodents and other lizards. They are tempermental delicate lizards requiring a very large enclosure and regular misting to be healthy. I can go on or I can just give you a couple of links to follow. Check out the 2 I am posting below, one is a forum and it's great to just browse.

A word to the wise, I have a bearded dragon, chameleon, frilled dragon and mali uromastyx as well as a pacman frog. After purchasing such an array of different animals I have found that the easiest one to care for and the most friendly is my captive bred (very important!!!!!!!) mali uromastyx. If you ever want to check out Uros go to www.urotopia.com, they are quite cool!
