Question:
If my ball had a bad shed and shed in pieces how can I tell if the eyecaps shed?

This is my first ball python and I've altered the humidity now so his next shed should be better, but this first one was miserable. He shed in a bunch of little pieces and I'm not sure how to tell if he shed his eyecaps.

I tried to look on here but to tell if the eyecaps shed everything says to check the shed skin - but that is just pieces and I can't tell anything from it, so how do I check?

Thanks in advance.

Hello; I have had this problem in the past with my Ball python, so I can sympathize. :(

First off; I'd recommend getting your snake under a bright light. If your snake has retained eye caps; while the eyes won't be foggy per se in most cases, they will have a metallic looking tinge to them, and they may have a slightly wrinkled appearance. Here is a website that has pictures of a Ball python with stuck eye caps so you can have a visual:

http://www.joecompelreptiles.com/ball_bits/retained_cap/index.asp

That website also lists a very effective way to remove them; but here is another website on the subject; as well:

I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

Good luck with your Ball python!

If it's eyes are clear then it has had a good shed. If the eyes are cloudy looking then just be patient, the snake will find a way to get the dead skin off

hold him to the light and if its still blueish then the shed is still on if its pitck black then its off.
