this morning there was a snake in our yard and we pretty much brought out all our neighbors to help us capture it or identify what kind of snake it is. We can't tell if it is venomous and no one has really ever seen a snake like it. It was about 2 feet long, red, and had pair of black stripes all the way down. the picture attached kind of looks like it, but instead of yellow in between it was red, and the stripes aren't as messy. I really need help figuring this out! Please post a name or a link and if it's venomous!! thank you!! I will answer your questions if your answer mine!

Where do you live? It sounds to me as if it could be a milk snake, they are pretty nervous and might strike but arent posionous. If you are somewhere that dosent have alot of snakes then it may be an escaped pet. It may also be a banded king snake, they come in tonnes of colours, agian not venomous.

As with what to do with it, i likve in england and i know the RSPCA is pretty disregarding with anything to do with snakes, as are most rescue centers. The police are the only people who respind but seems a waste of time as its not doin a crime. If you feel comfortable about it put it in a plastic faunarium and keep a desk bulb over it for heat and as a temporary solution, you could put up a notice or ring a local sanctuary. You could even look on line for a local snake/reptile breeder or rescue that could take it. Or you could drive it to a pet store?

If not just let it go :) it dosent seem to pose any threat though lol

Ok, I need to have something clarified... you say "stripes", but the snake you linked a pic to (which is a scarlet kingsnake and perfectly harmless by the way) is banded... You don't say where you live, so there's no help there... you might want to try a search on " snake identification" to narrow it down a bit, but.... (as I said, banded and striped are two completely different things) if it's banded like that and just black and red with no yellow at all, I almost don't think you're in North America at all... because the only thing I can think of that comes even close would be a young mud snake: http://z.hubpages.com/u/277741_f520.jpg but as you can see, the bands don't go all the way around, and if that's what it is, I'm jealous because you got one of the prettiest snakes there is in North America up in your yard... (The ONLY banded venomous snake in North America is the coral snake, and since there's no yellow {anywhere?} it's not a coral snake... again, if you're in North America... if you're elsewhere, yes, it could be a coral) If it's actually ~striped~ instead of banded, again, if you're in North America, we have NO striped venomous snakes, and my guess would be some sort of garter snake: http://www.gartersnake.info/articles/img/000261_sanfran.jpg http://www.dupageforest.com/media/images/cms/District_News/Multimedia_Gallery/Photo_Galleries/Eastern-Plains-Garter-Snake.jpg there are several species, that's just two, or (which I'd be even more surprised than if it were a mud snake) a rainbow snake: http://www.bio.davidson.edu/projects/herpcons/herps_of_NC/snakes/Farery/Farancia_erytrogramma-AikenCo.SC-VanDevender5.jpg

Again, a search on " snake identification" will do better than linking us to a picture that's almost right, but not the snake you saw. (had the entire neighborhood out and no one brought their camera?)

The snake with the main powerful venom is the fierce snake (additionally suggested as the inland taipan), although maximum sea-snakes are additionally fairly venomous. even although, the snake that kills the main individuals each and every twelve months is the Indian cobra - because of the fact of the place it lives, it comes into touch with human beings so plenty greater many times than maximum different snakes, and in rural communities there's no get right of entry to to anti-venom.
