All mealworms if left undisturbed will eventually turn into black beetles after being in a larvae state.

Lizards can and will eat these beetles, but in my experience I feel that the beetle's hard outer shell isn't good for it's digestive system. This is especially true if the lizards are as relatively small as an Anole.

Mealworm beetles may look creepy, but they will do your lizard no harm.

If the Anole was literally "a skeleton" when found then that means that he was sick and had not eaten for a long while before he died.

The beetles could have been the result of mealworms that were left uneaten in his cage prior to his death.

It depends on the size of the beetle. Most of the meal worms and super worms are larvae of black beetles, which can be dangerous. You should try feeding your water dragon something else, like earthworms or crickets.

Mealworms and Superworms do turn into beetles. They are beetle larvae. The adult beetles can bite, and some can inflict wounds and possibly kill a small animal. They definitely eat dead flesh. Laboratory skeletons are prepared with flesh-eating beetles.

If you just leave mealworms in the cage long enough they will turn into beetles.

Though, I highly doubt that they can eat a lizard.

It's safe to feed mealworms to them, just don't leave them crawling around the cage. :/
